The first thing you have to do is get a shovel, which you can buy from John, but only after you get the excavation license.
The next steps are:
- Dig a hole
- Throw the seed from your inventory into the hole (it must have the “Bury” trait
- Make sure the seed is actually in the hole you dug
- Take a shovel and fill the hole with the grain in it
If you have a bag of seeds then you need to use a hoe to dig in the soil and put the seeds in it – you can get the hoe from a botanist who comes from time to time.
